Douglas DC-3 in SAS

While it lacks the glamour of the Douglas DC-7C or the DC-8, the speed of the COnvair 990, the size of the Boeing 747 or the elegant lines of the Sud Caravelle, the Douglas DC-3 deserves a place among the really great aircraft types operated by SAS. In the airline's formative years, in the 1950s the DC-3 was the true workhorse of the new airline, operating mainly domestic and European services, but also venturing as far off as East Africa.

On these pages, the history of SAS-operations with DC-3, will be presented, together with the complete history of all the 48 individual aircraft operated by SAS from 1947 to 1957.
